| Thursday, June 27: We drove from Boston to the ferry terminal in Bar Harbor arriving just before noon. We got the last parking space in the lot.
By the time we got the bikes ready to go and had changed clothes, it was about half past noon. We had to ride the very commercial Route 3 west to get off Mt Desert Island and out to Rt 1. Riding north on Rt 1 was fine as far as traffic and such but was not particularly scenic. After cycling about 45 miles, we stopped for the day at Mainayr Campground. We got a beautiful site right on the bay. For some reason the campground was nearly deserted. The owners were unable to make change for our $50, so we will have to remember to mail them a check for the camping fee when we get home. Once the bugs came out at night the scenery lost much of its charm and we retreated to our tent.
